A quiet studio workshop in Cologne:
Create a small scarf – and then dye a naturally pre-treated cotton bag using the technique of your choice. Three methods, one process, two hours with dye.
In this introductory course, you'll learn the basics of natural dyeing – practical, simplified, and no prior knowledge required. You can choose between indigo , plant-based dye baths , or bundle dyeing . All three techniques have their own unique rhythm and aesthetic.
First, you create a cotton cloth (45×45 cm). You can decorate it using the bundle-dye method with flowers and plant parts – or dye it in a dye bath.
Next, you dye a sturdy cotton bag – either in an indigo vat , a plant bath , or using bundle dye . The focus is on calm, handcrafted work and clean lines.
All materials are prepared; the textiles are washed and mordanted (for plant dyes) or ready for vat dyeing (for indigo).
The dyed pieces will be washed and ironed in the studio after the workshop. You can pick them up a few days later – or have them sent to you by post for €6.50.
